November 12, 1997 The Honorable Fob James, Jr. Dear Governor James: Governor Fob James of Alabama, today November 10, 1997, notified Linda S. Burns, president of the Family Resource Center of Northwest Alabama in Jasper, that he has approved the organization's application for a $40,000 Victims of Crimes Act grant to continue providing shelter and related services to victims of domestic violence. The grant to the Family Resource Center of Northwest Alabama was one of 23 grants totaling more than $1.8 million that Governor James awarded to organizations that continue his focus on protecting children, reducing family and domestic violence and helping battered women escape abusing spouses. "Violence is unacceptable behavior in a civilized society, yet violence against defenseless women and children is increasing. These organizations are as dedicated as I to helping women and children who are victims of violence and want to put a stop to it. I commend the work they do and am pleased to direct these funds to their use," Governor James said. Funding for the grants is provided for by Congress through the U. S. Department of Justice. The grants are administered by the Law, Enforcement and Traffic Safety Division of the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, Ed Gardner, director. Five important facts are deliberately overlooked by the above. 1) Linda S. Burns, president of the Family Recourse Center is a lawyer, whose clientele is predominantly female. 2) As a lawyer she has the capacity to encourage and coach her female clients into filing false abuse accusations. 3) Lawyers, in control of public funds used to promote unnecessary and often times unwarranted abuse accusations, constitute a conflict of interest. 4) No mention is made about male victims of violence and abuse. 5) False abuse accusations not only destroys the accused but also the accused's child - both innocent victims of a vindictive person. Governor James claims, probably at the prompting of lawyers, that violence against defenseless women and children is increasing. When a very lucrative source of income - grants - is tied to an easily and fraudulently obtained arrest warrant, a conflict of interest exists. All grants and shelters known to this writer is either received or operated by a lawyer or someone closely connected to law enforcement. The fox watches the hen house. The grant money could be better used to build new jail facilities to house those who make false abuse accusations. I predict the new jails would be full in short order and then not needed when the false accusers learn it is unprofitable to lie and perjury themselves for personal gain. ______________________ Lawyers, mediators and government bureaucrats must agitate your situation to create a continuing pecuniary relationship. It is not in the best (financial) interest of either to solve your problem permanently. Communism is not dead - it slowly merges with American Democracy. If that sounds unbelievable, figure out how many children are "wards of the state" in America. |
