RE.	Both Parents Grant Solicitation Requests

I am pleased to announce we have been awarded a grant under the Grants to States for Access and Visitation Program administered by the federal Office of Child Support Enforcement, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Administration. The money has been made available to support the development of Both Parents programs. The Both Parents program seeks to promote, as appropriate, the involvement of both parents in the lives of their children and encourage the development of cooperative partnerships within each community to coordinate various services enhancing non-custodial parents' access to and visitation of their children. The program may incorporate many strategies, including among others, voluntary and/or mandated mediation, expedited court processing procedures, parenting education, supervised visitation, visitation transportation and information programs and materials.

To ensure that programs have broad based community support, this office will only consider applications submitted by circuit, district, or juvenile courts, or a consortium of courts.

If your court is interested in participating in the Both Parents program please submit the following information.

- A notice of interest in participating in the Both Parents program
- Identify the major problems(s) facing non-custodial parents in your community which you would like to address
- Identify community agencies or organizations that will be willing to work with the court to solve problems (for example: County Juvenile Justice Coordinating Council)
- Identify what areas of the state will be served, and an estimate of the number of individuals to be benefitted through the project
- Provide a short narrative on how you anticipate resolving the problems(s) identified .

I encourage our courts to continue providing the essential community leadership in support of parenting issues. With the funds available, $100,000, the Administrative Office of Courts anticipate funding xxxxx number of local Both Parents programs (approximately $20,000 per program) during the grant cycle. Additional programs will be funded if resources are available. If your court is selected to participate in the Both Parents program our state program director for the Both Parents program stands ready to assist you with grant documentation, facilitation, program organization, and information needs. Your point of contact is James W. LaBaza, Planning and Research Division, AOC, telephone 334-242-0300, fax 334-242-2099. The attached form is provided to assist in collating your information. We look forward to reviewing your program request by xxxxx,xx 1998.
