Record turnout of voters approves school tax
Would the constitutional reformers please
explain the no-home-rule in light of the largest property tax vote in Mobile County?
Mobile County voters turned out in record
numbers Tuesday to raise taxes for Alabama's largest school system, with a number of precincts making a 180-degree
turnaround.

Mobile County voters debunked the false no-home-rule fabrication,
most often espoused by constitutional reformers. On May 15th, in a landslide victory, the citizens of Mobile County
voted to raise property and sales tax for schools.
The amazing part is that the property tax vote occurred without any other counties in Alabama knowing about it.
Nor were the remaining Alabama counties forced to help Mobile County decide for the property tax increase and the
property tax vote did not require a constitutional amendment.
Tuesday, nearly half of the county's active registered voters - 103,464 - went to the polls. Two years ago, only
about 36 percent of active voters participated in a special tax election for county schools.
