Sex Case - Appeal dismissed by court

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 doesn't apply to the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals, the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in a sexual harassment lawsuit.

The federal appeals court said U.S. District Judge Ira DeMent correctly dismissed a suit by former Court of Criminal Appeals employees Jackie Laurie and Barbara Lindsey, who accused former Judge Sam Taylor of repeatedly harassing them by hugging them, telling dirty jokes and talking about the sexual prowess of men on the court.

DeMent ruled last year that the Civil Rights Act applies only to employers with 15 or more employees but not to the Court of Criminal Appeals, which by his count has 13 employees.
